Elite Genetics to be Showcased at SRS® Classic Field Day
- Details
Sheep producers will be given the opportunity to inspect elite SRS® Genetics from some of the industry’s best breeders at the SRS® Classic Field Day on Saturday 24 September 2011.
Over 100 leading SRS® Merino and Poll Merino rams will be showcased at the Wellington Showground ahead of the 7th Annual SRS® Classic Ram Sale on Saturday 8 October 2011.
Chairman of the SRS® Classic Ram Selling Group, Norm Smith, said that SRS® Genetics are becoming increasingly sought after, as more sheep producers realise the advantages of easy-care Merinos.
“Commercial wool and sheep meat producers from across the country are seeing the benefits first hand in terms of improved fertility, low maintenance and superior wool quality which all equate to more dollars in their pockets,” Mr Smith said.
The SRS® Classic Ram Selling Group work together to promote the many benefits of SRS® Genetics and have built a solid reputation for delivering truly all-purpose Merinos while adhering to a strict code of ethics. They are Bella Lana, Boxleigh Park, Glenwood, and Mumblebone from the Wellington region; GullenGamble, Yeoval; Hilltop, Mudgee; and Parkdale, Dubbo.
SRS® Merinos:
•Are plain-bodied with minimal skin wrinkle, naturally resistant to fly strike and do not require mulesing;
•Produce high fleece weights of fine, silky soft wool;
•Are easy to shear and easy to manage, requiring minimal chemical use;
•Are extremely fertile and weaning averages over 120% are commonly seen; and
•Have excellent muscle patterning and fat reserves and therefore bounce back quickly after drought, pregnancy and lactation, saving a fortune in supplementary feeding costs.
The SRS® Classic Field Day will be held on Saturday 24 September 2011 from 10am to 4pm at the Wellington Showgrounds. Lunch and refreshments are provided.
