Records Fall at SRS Classic Ram Sale
- Details
It was a record breaking SRS® Classic Ram sale on Saturday with 82 elite SRS® Merino and Poll Merino rams averaging an amazing $2,101 with the top priced ram fetching $5,000.
A record crowd of around 200 people attended the 7th Annual Classic reflecting the strong demand trend towards truly all purpose Merinos with that are highly profitable, low maintenance and extremely fertile.
The top priced ram was sold for $5,000 by Chad and Lou Taylor of Mumblebone Merino Stud, Wellington, to Mike Martin of Neerim Pastoral Co., Coolah. The Stud also topped the sale average with an impressive $3,083 from 12 rams sold.
SRS® Classic Ram Selling Group President, Norm Smith, said he was overwhelmed by the interest and the number of new clients at the sale.
“It is obvious from Saturday’s record-breaking sale that the SRS® Classic is now one of the premier events in Australia for sourcing elite SRS® Genetics from some of the industry's best breeders,” Mr Smith said.
“Buyers really appreciate the fact that all of the Classic Studs work together to identify genetics ‘fit for purpose’ with all sale rams displaying Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) and vendors adhering to a strict code of ethics.”
“We are also pleased to announce that the SRS® Classic raised over $3,000 for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation which will be used to buy lifesaving equipment for hospitals in the Central West region,” Mr Smith added.
The seven member Studs of the SRS® Classic Ram Selling Group are:
